Man Who Defrauded Commissioners Of Police Jailed For 2 Years

A man who defrauded two police commissioners has been
jailed. Mohammed Isah was sentenced by an Ikeja
Magistrates’ Court, to two years’ imprisonment for
defrauding the Anambra and Ondo states Commissioners
of Police of N154,000.
While the Anambra CP was duped of N150,000, his
counterpart in Ondo State was swindled of N4,000.
The court held that Isah was guilty of the offence and
handed him the sentence without option of fine.
The convict was said to have operated in Anambra, Ondo
and Lagos states between June and December 7, 2015,
before he was arrested by the police in Lagos.
The Katsina-born convict had gone to the Lagos State
Police Command’s X-Squad Department in Ikeja to
complain that some policemen attached to the Rapid
Response Squad collected N188, 200 from him.
A police officer, ACP Edward Ajogun, who had served in
the Ondo Police Command before he was transferred to
Lagos in September, reportedly met him making the
complaint.
It was learnt that Ajogun had witnessed a similar scenario
of the convict framing some policemen in Ondo with the
sole aim of getting compensated.
Isah, who was immediately arrested, had reportedly
implicated policemen in Ondo and Anambra states by
taking the number plates of their patrol vehicles to the
state police headquarters on the claims that they
extorted money from him.
It was said that the Anambra Commissioner of Police had
paid him N150,000 after he alleged that the cops from
the command swindled him of N270,000.
Isah, who had used a pseudonym, Musa Mulamba, also
accused a team of six policemen on patrol in Akure, Ondo
State, of extorting N140, 000 from him. But the state
CP gave him N4, 000 for reporting the matter to the
command.
Our correspondent learnt that the allegation led to the
dismissal of the six cops.
Isah had on December 12 pleaded guilty to the three
counts bordering on fraud when he was arraigned before
the court’s Chief Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Olayinka.
The magistrate consequently sentenced him to two years
in prison for each of the three counts, adding that the
jail terms would run concurrently without option of fine.

Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez Offered Up To $ 1M From Vivid Entertainment To Do Porn

a letter from Vivid Entertainment, the maker of several
pornographic movies and celebrity sex tapes, offering
her up to $1 million. In this photo, Miss Universe 2014

in Las Vegas, Dec. 20, 2015.

Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez has reportedly received
a letter from Vivid Entertainment, the maker of several
celebrity pornographic films, offering her up to $1 million
to make a film for the production house. Gutierrez was
mistakenly announced as Miss Universe 2015 by host
Steve Harvey on Sunday in place of Miss Philippines Pia
Alonzo Wurtzbach.
“Like so many others I have followed closely the debacle
that you unfortunately were a part of. That could not
have been an enjoyable evening,” Vivid Entertainment
CEO Steve Hirsch wrote in the letter, a copy of which
was obtained by TMZ. “I will pay you up to $1 million to
both make movies for and represent Vivid Entertainment.
You will pick partners, the type of sex you want to have,
and how many movies you ultimately appear in.”
In the letter, he held up the example of another
pageant winner, Vanessa Williams, and said that people
know her because of her nude photos that appeared in
Penthouse magazine in 1984, after which her Miss
America title was withdrawn. “Today Vanessa is an
accomplished actress, singer and author. She has even
admitted that the incident with Penthouse helped rather
than hurt her career,” Hirsch wrote.

Hirsch also said that the company will make a Vivid Girl
crown for her that will be “grander than anything Miss
Philippines will ever wear."
Gutierrez spoke up about the incident at the Miss
Universe event and thanked her supporters. She wrote on
Instagram on Tuesday: "I want to thank each and
everyone of you who have sent messages of support and
strength,” adding that it was her “destiny” to be
crowned Miss Universe, even if it was for a few minutes.
“I was able to bring happiness to my country after
becoming Miss Universe for only a couple of minutes,”
the 21-year-old said, adding: “Today because of that
COLOMBIA and the LATIN COMMUNITY are being
talked about in every corner of the world.”

She also said: “I also want to congratulate the Philippines
for their new Miss Universe,” adding, “The happiness
that you must be feeling must be incredible.”
Harvey has apologized for the blunder. “I'd like to
apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss
Philippines for my huge mistake. I feel terrible,” he said
on Twitter, adding: “I don't want to take away from this
amazing night and pageant. As well as the wonderful
contestants. They were all amazing. ”
A report by Hollywood Life on Tuesday said that he is
trying to “redeem” himself after the incident and wants
to host the event again to restore his integrity.

10 Things I Have Learned From Dating Naija Girls -

1. A girl will make a guy chase her as long as she can't
trust him.
2. Never brag in front of her. When you brag in her
present, she'll think you are trying to impress her.
instead let her brag n try to impress you.
3. Most naija guys are single while most girls are in
relationship. This is funny but true, I have a friend who
has about 7 girlfriends and these girls are all faithful to
him. I'm sure you get my point.
4. Girls like funny guys but most funny guys get friend
zoned, except for the smartass funny guys
5. Girls are different, you can't use the same tricks on
different girls. Forget it, there re no particular steps in
getting any girl. If there are steps to getting every
girl, then every guy will not have problem getting a girl.
Just know the type of woman you are dealing with then
play along and learn from your mistakes.
6. Guess what ,,If you are rich, women will chase you.
Anybody telling you that you don't need money to get a
woman is a learner. Money is always involved in one way or
the other.
7. As a guy,,, your look does not matter much.
8. Beautiful girls are easier to get than the average
ones. Only experience guys knows what am talking about.
9. Girls love sex. Most nice guys think girls don't like sex...
I'm laughing at those guys now.
10. Yes, bad guys and arrogant/proud guys always get
the girls(especially girls with low self esteem). Confident

Nigerians Abroad Sent $21Billion Home In 2015 -

With about $21 billion sent home by Nigerians
in diaspora in 2015, the country is the sixth
largest receiver of remittances in the world,
the Migration of Remittance Factbook 2016
has shown.
The country is also by far the largest receiver
of remittances in sub-Saharan Africa,
receiving a total of $34.8 billion this year.
The report, which relied on data gathered
from January to December 1, 2015, was
compiled by the Global Knowledge
Partnership on Migration and Development
with support from the World Bank, German,
Swedish and Swiss governments.
An analysis of the report by PREMIUM TIMES
also shows that the United States and the
United Kingdom are by far the most lucrative
destinations for Nigerian migrants. Nigerians
at home received a total of $9.4 billion ($5.7
billion from the US and $3.7 billion from the
UK) from both countries in 2015.
According to the report, the U.S. is the top
remittance-sending country in the world. A
total of $56.3 billion was sent out of the US to
other parts of the world. The second largest
remittance-sending country is Saudi Arabia
with $36.9 billion followed by Russia ($32.6

most expensive in the world (the most
expensive being the cost of sending money
between Australia to the South Pacific country
of Vanuatu).
For every $200 remitted from South Africa to
Zambia, senders are charged 19 per cent.
The cost is 17.4 per cent to send the same
amount from South Africa- Botswana and
17.3 per cent from Tanzania to Uganda.
In comparison, it cost just 0.6 per cent to
send the same amount of money from Saudi
Arabia to Nepal and 3.1 per cent from the
United Arab Emirate to anywhere in the world.

most preferred destination for migrants in
Africa after South Africa and Ivory Coast.

7 Ways To Protect Your Phone From Been Hacked. -

Your smartphone is quickly replacing your PC as the
primary device where you shop, bank, and store your
personal information. That means it’s becoming an
attractive target for cybercriminals who want to get
their hands on your passwords and private information.
Luckily, with some care and the use of the right tools,
you can protect yourself from criminals with plans to
hijack your phone or access the sensitive data you keep
on it. Here are a few security tips for owners of Android
smartphones.
Keep your software updated
Your operating system and your applications will regularly
receive software updates. As annoying as they can be,
these updates often address known security vulnerabilities
in the software. So be sure to check for regular updates
and download them. To save on mobile data costs, update
Android and your apps on a Wi-Fi connection.
Lock your screen
Lock your screen behind a pattern, PIN, password, or a
fingerprint (if your phone has a biometric reader) to
protect your data from a thief and prevent him or her
from running up your phone bill.
Turn off cookies and autofill
Switch off autofill in your browser settings. This feature,
which stores and automatically enters logins and
passwords for web sites, can expose you to privacy and
security risks. If you want a convenient way to securely
store and manage multiple passwords, rather use an app
like 1Password. This tool creates strong, unique passwords
for every site, remembers them, and logs you in with a
single tap.
Download apps from trusted sources
Download apps only from trusted sources such as the
official Google Play and Amazon app stores. The official
app stores scan apps for malware and spyware, offering
you a little more protection than you’d get by simply
downloading apps from a random web site offering ‘free’
apps. Don’t download Android Package files (APKs) from
the web, since they bypass app store certifications and
may contain malware.
Install an anti-virus app
Your Android smartphone can scan for malware, but an
antivirus app can give you a little more peace of mind.
Have a look at the Google Play Appstore to see which
ones fit your needs and your budget.
Back up your data
Be sure to back up your data in case your smartphone
gets lost, stolen, or damaged. You can do a manual
backup to the cloud or find an app to automatically
back your data up for you. This will ensure that you can
get your information back easily if something happens to
your device.
Turn on the Android Device Manager
The Android Device Manager allows you to remotely lock,
wipe, and locate your device if it goes missing. With
Android Device Manager, you will be able to locate and
ring your phone if you misplace it. To set up this
feature, look at the security function in your settings
manager. Once you’ve configured it, you can access
Android Device Manager from any web browser, and gain
access to your smartphone.

Five Things Nigerian Girls Want For Christmas

Black girls are often regarded as the most
beautiful and intelligent group of women in the
world. Although every lady has a unique
taste, there are certain things each one of
them crave and will not hesitate to include on
their secret Santa list.
A Great Food Processor
Although many comedians and tabloids have
tried to portray Nigerian girls as fast-food
lovers, the truth is that they love to cook!
With the modern technology making cooking
easier and faster, the average Nigerian girl
has a food machine on their ‘Santa’s list’. Get
her a food processor with several blades and
functions, and you are on your way to
stealing her heart.
Husband
This applies to the single girl. African women
are raised to be homely and family-oriented,
and so a majority of them who are above 25
and yet unmarried have the intense longing
for a husband with whom they can start a
family with.
While most of them will never admit it, a
glance on their wishlist will reveal snagging a
“husband” as Number 1. If you are dating a
Nigerian girl, this Christmas might just be the
best time to propose to her, that way you help
both Santa and yourself. Also, if you are a
single brother, ready for marriage and
searching for your ‘missing rib’…go find a
sister and propose.
Gym Membership
Keeping fit and looking trim is the new trend
for Nigerian girls, especially those in Lagos,
and so, a majority of them are saving their
hard earned registered in gym – the idea
basically is to look like most of the
celebrities.
Unfortunately, not all gyms offer great
services and those who are unable to gain
gym membership at the top sweatshops
where they can get great work out, keep
wishing for membership. They hope that
somehow, Santa will touch someone to get
them registered in one of the gyms, and for
free too.
An Unlimited Cash Account
Forget Nigerian girls, every single human in
the country and the world would do almost
anything for an unlimited expense account.
Shoes, clothes, hair, spa time…they all cost
money, and usually, for the average lady, it is
a bit of a challenge getting everything you
need to stay on top of the fashion game.
Also with an unlimited expense account, it
would easy to set up dream businesses and
live an organized life. While they know there
is a slim chance of this wish coming true,
these girls still include it on their list in faith.
Calorie-Free Alcohol
Christmas is a time for merriment and
celebration. And truth be told, there is no
party without alcohol! Unfortunately, drinking
every night at the festivities is all fun and
games until it is January and you look less
like Toke Makinwa and more like Lepacious
Bose.
Alcohol in some way, tends to add fat to the
thighs, belly and arms. So, some girls who
believe they can eat their cake and have it
now want calorie-free alcohol. Let’s hope
Santa has something in store.

CBN Allows New Businesses Borrow From N220bn MSME Fund

CBN Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele
The CBN also said that banks and other finance
institutions that lends to business start-ups under the
fund will be allowed to access the fund at zero interest
rate.
This was contained in the Revised Micro, Small and
Medium Enterprises Development Fund (MSMEDF)
Guidelines issued yesterday by the Development Finance
department of the CBN.
Previously, only existing businesses can borrow from the
fund through their banks. The new guidelines however
removed this limitation stating, “Participating Financial
Institutions (PFIs) are required to fund start-up projects
under the MSMEDF. To encourage Deposit Money Banks
(DMBs) and Development Finance Institutions (DFIs), some
incentives shall apply.
“PFIs are expected to accept charge on fixed and
floating assets of the financed projects as collateral for
start-ups. Collateral requirement from start-ups by PFIs
(DMBs and DFIs) shall be educational certificates such
as SSCE, National Diploma (ND), National Certificate of
Education (NCE), National Business and Technical
Examination Board (NABTEB), Higher National Diploma
(HND), University degree (NYSC Certificate where
applicable) and a guarantor.
“The start-ups to access the MSMEDF must present
their Bank Verification Number (BVN). Venture Capital
Firms (VCFs) that wish to finance start-ups in form of
equity participation shall be eligible to access the
MSMEDF at 2.0 percent for investment in start-up
projects. The collateral for such facility to the VCF
shall be bank guarantee.
“Incentive shall be offered to PFIs that repay loans as at
when due. a) Start-Ups (i) DMBs/DFIs playing in this
space, shall access MSMEDF facility at zero percent
interest for on-lending at 9.0 percent (all-inclusive) to
start-ups. (ii) The PFIs shall qualify for a 50 percent
risk shared on the net outstanding balance in the case
of default. b) Other Incentives Microfinance Banks with
PAR of 10 percent and below shall be exempted from
providing financial assets as collateral to access facility
under the MSMEDF.”
In addition to the above, the CBN also reduced interest
rate it charges PFIs accessing the loan from 3.0
percent to 2.0 percent. It stated, “Interest Rates All
PFIs shall access funds at an interest rate of 2.0
percent per annum and on lend at 9.0 percent per
annum inclusive of all charges. The interest rate
chargeable under the MSMEDF may be reviewed by the
Central Bank of Nigeria from time to time.”
The decision to allow business start-ups borrow from the
fund is aimed at boosting graduate employment by
encouraging banks to lend to graduates intending to set
up businesses.
Recall that the CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele while
addressing the just concluded 7th annual Banker
Committee Retreat had announced that the apex bank
would soon introduce measures to generate one million
graduate employments.
He said, “In 2016, the CBN is contemplating a programme
that would support SMEs at concessionary pricing to our
young graduates. We need to get more people to be
employed. The central bank would over the next few
weeks work out the initiative to create employment for
at least one million graduates in Nigeria in 2016. That
would entail the support from Nigerian banks and our
development partners.”

NLC Rejects Electricity Tariff Hike

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) wednesday
rejected vehemently the increase of electricity tariffs
announced this week by the Nigerian Electricity
Regulation Commission (NERC).
At the meeting of the Central Working Committee
(CWC) of the NLC held at the Paschal Bafyau Labour
House, it said after exhaustive deliberations, the union
“noted the discordant tunes coming out from different
quarters, including government on fuel subsidy removal
and pump price increase”.NLC further noted that in
other countries, products prices are falling as a result of
the continuing crash in the price of crude oil in the
International market. In our country CWC is shocked
that we are canvassing for price increase.
According to the NLC President, Mr. Ayuba Wabba and
General Secretary, Dr. Peter Ozo-Eson, the NLC, they
said, “Re-affirmed its opposition to any price increase. It
therefore resolved to mobilize Nigerian to resist any
increase.”
They observed that “there have been discordant tunes
from State Governors on the issue of the National
Minimum Wage. Whereas, at one moment, they deny
that there are plans to reduce the minimum wage, at
another moment, they threaten to sack workers or
reduce the minimum wage;
“The National Minimum Wage of N18,000 has been
rendered valueless by the mindless devaluation of the
Naira and rising inflation. Moreover, it is legally due for
a review;
“It is a national law which no governor can unilaterally
review. Oppose any attempt by any governor to reduce or
tamper with the minimum wage
Mobilise all members of the Congress to any state that
reviews downward the minimum wage or resorts to laying
off workers.”
The NLC contended that “a 45% upward increase in
electricity Tariff at this point in time with the
challenges in the economy, which have adversely
reduced the purchasing power of ordinary Nigerians and
slowed down businesses, including manufacturing, is not
justifiable.
“The electricity distribution companies have continued to
exploit Nigerians by estimated billing systems for the
majority of consumers, while deliberately refusing to
make pre-paid metres available.
“It is clear therefore that the 45% Tariff increase is
an additional heavy burden on consumers and will have a
telling effect on business especially manufacturing,” they
stressed.
NLC demanded “that prepaid metres be made available
free to all consumers, and expressed disappointment over
the plan by government to re-introduce toll gates on our
highways and roads.
“Recalling the enormous public resources expended in the
past on the construction and demolition of toll gates,
CWC observed that the proceeds from toll collection
were never effectively deployed for the maintenance of
roads, but lined the pockets of favoured collectors.
Convinced that proceeds from any new toll collections will
suffer the same fate, CWC disagrees with the planned
re-introduction of toll gates,” the NLC submitted.

The Trick I Used On My Girlfriend In Order To Know She's Been Cheating On Me

I was having a feeling that my girlfriend was
cheating on me. I tried asking her on different
occasions but she maintained she wasn't. I
thought she might wanna open up to me but I
thought wrong.
I've been telling her to go for an HIV test
long before all these, of which she promises to
go for it but she ends up giving me so many
excuses why she couldn't, like being busy and
all that.
So this particular night she came over to my
place and we started talking, I asked her again
if she was having an affair with someone else
but she denied again. I needed to know because I
didn't want to waste my time with anyone, I
wanted to know so that I could know where to
place her.
So I told her I'd gone for my own HIV test, and
she needed to go for hers as well. She wanted
to know the result of my test but I told her
never to mind cos I won't and if she's lucky
enough, hers might just be different from mine,
knowing we've had it raw too many times.
I think she got struck by the cord, so she
started pestering me and begging me in fear to
show her my result, but I refused blatantly. I
stylishly told her she's really done so much in
my life by changing me to whom I am and
preparing me for what I wasn't ever prepared
for.
She thought I was HIV positive, I was putting her
on her toes cos I didn't come out clear, then I
asked her who she's been sleeping with apart
from me. I begged her for the truth this time,
that telling me the truth is the only thing
that will make me show her my result. That
was when she started crying, telling me how
she got pushed by friends to dating this guy,
not only that, she's been having unprotected
sex with this same guy and at the same time
with me.
I didn't see the writing on the wall at all so
all these was so surprising to me. After telling
me all that, I told her I'd not done any test,
and I'm grateful I know the truth now and the
truth has set me free.
I dumped her sorry ass cos no amount of pleas
could change my heart. A couple of weeks
after, I did my HIV test, with my heart buried in
my lungs, but thank God I'm negative and I'm
not gonna screw this second chance I've got.
So pls readers, no girl is worth the raw no
matter how much you feel you trust her. And
also, checking your HIV status is the only way
to know you are positive cos before then I
thought I was cos of so many symptoms I used
to have but surprisingly, after knowing I am
negative, all the symptoms stopped.
Thanks for taking your time to read. Have a
nice day.

Woman Stabs Rapist Pastor To Death In Cross Rivers

A randy pastor in a village in Akpabuyo
Local Government Area of Cross River
State, identified as Pastor Oliver Akpan,
has been sent to the great beyond by a
married woman he tried To Molest
during a spiritual deliverance he
purportedly conducted for her.
According to a witness who sent this
story to Pulse exclusively, Pastor
Akpan, married with six children, had
long been suspected to sleep with his
church members, both married and
single but he met his match in the
woman identified as Ekamma, who is
also married with two children.
As the story goes, Ekamma had gone
to the pastor to seek his help over
some spiritual attack she was facing
and Pastor Akpan had recommended a
three day dry fasting for the woman to
be carried out in the church and on the
final day, there would be a spiritual
bath to ward off the evil spirit.
After going through the fast, the pastor
led the hungry woman to a stream to
have the spiritual bath but he had other
ideas in mind as he was said to have
told the woman that part of the bath
included having sex with her but when
she refused, she attempted to forcefully
have carnal knowledge of the woman.
As the woman tried to free herself, she
allegedly picked up a sharp stick and
stabbed him in the stomach, before she
ran to the village to alert other
residents.
By the time they got to the spot, the
wounded pastor had lost consciousness
as he bled profusely. He was rushed to
a hospital where doctors confirmed he
died before he was brought in.
The woman was initially arrested by the
police but was released on bail while
investigations are still on going.

21 Year Old Undergraduate Murdered By Police

UMUAHIA — FOR the family of Mr. Emmanuel
Uwagbaokwu of Ohobo Afara in Umuahia North
Council Area of Abia State, happiness and peace
of mind have eluded them for now following
the gruesome murder of their 21 year old son,
Ikechukwu Uwagbaokwu, allegedly by the
operatives of the Abia State Police Command.
Until his tragic death, Ikechukwu Vincent
Uwagbaokwu was a student of Imo State
Polytechnic, Umuagwo, in Ohaji- Egbema Local
Government Area.
The Uwagbaokwu family is strongly linking the
tragic killing of their son to a land dispute it
has with the Ndukwe and Uwaga families.
Specifically, the family is alleging that the
said families framed their son and connived with
the police to kill Ikechukwu because of the
land dispute.
The land dispute was said to have lingered and
was getting messier when the community’s
traditional peace makers, Ibeku Okonko
Arbitration Panel waded into it and had indeed
fixed a date to hear from the families involved
before one the parties lost one of the
witnesses, prompting the rescheduling of the
matter by the traditional panel.
However, five days to the rescheduled date,
Ikechukwu was gruesomely murdered and the
Uwagbaokwu family is pointing accusing fingers
at the rival families in the land dispute.
According to their petition to the Abia State
Commissioner of Police, Uwagbaokwu family hinged
their suspicion on an allegation from one of
the rival families which had earlier accused them
of being responsible for the death of their
family member.
The Uwagbaokwu family, in the petition, written
by their lawyer, Godwin Oriaku of Overcome’s
Chambers, claimed that days before the burial
of the deceased from the rival family, they
[rival family] sent a warning message to them
not to attend the burial ceremony, accusing
them of having a hand in the death of their
brother. The petition also alleged that prior to
the killing of Ikechukwu, “there have been
threats issued at various occasions” by the rival
family that lost a member that they were
“going to avenge the death from the family of
Uwagbaokwu”.
In the petition addressed to Abia Police
Commissioner, Joshak Habila, the family of the
slain undergraduate accused the police of killing
their son. “On the 10th of September, 2015, Mr.
Ikechukwu Vincent Uwagbaokwu, a Marketing
Student of Imo Polytechnic went to bed at
about 9.00pm but at about 10.50pm there was
persistent banging on the door of the family
house of the Uwagbaokwu.
“When Mr. Anthony Uwagbaokwe (elder brother of
deceased) came out to see who was banging on
their door, lo and behold, there were about ten
fierce men in Police uniform who had taken
strategic positions in the surroundings of the
house. “One of the men in uniform, who came
with Hilux pick up van and black Camry Saloon
Car, hit the door of one of the occupants of
the house and forced it open. When the
occupant came out, the men in police uniform,
who refused to identify themselves, said that
he was not the person that they were looking
for.
“The Police went to the direction pointed to by
those who allegedly brought them. The armed
policemen forced the next wooden door open
and on sighting Ikechukwu Vincent Uwagbaokwu,
one of the policemen allegedly shot him and
he died immediately. “Our clients raised alarm
but nobody came to their rescue. The matter
was reported to Ehimiri Police Station in whose
jurisdiction this area falls, where the Divisional
Police Officer (DPO) gave them order to deposit
the deceased at Madonna Mortuary in Umuahia,”
the family stated
The 54 year old father of slain Ikechukwu, Mr.
Emmanuel Uwagbaokwu, has therefore appealed to
the Inspector General of police, Solomon Arase
to order a comprehensive investigation to
properly unravel who are the killers of his
son. In a telephone chat, the Commissioner of
Police, Joshak Habila could neither confirm nor
deny the incident or the receipt of the petition
but urged the lawyer and members of the
family to see him in the office if they have
such allegation, saying that they would not
cover or protect any police man involved in
extra-judicial killing or any illegal act.
But the family lawyer, Godwin Oriaku, insisted
that the Police Commissioner has the petitions
which he forwarded to the CID department to
investigate. In fact, Oriaku claimed that four
suspects have been arrested but alleged that
the Ehimiri DPO was still shielding the alleged
killer cop even as he said that his clients
would demand for a thorough autopsy to
determine the type of bullet that killed their
son.

5 Boring Departments In Nigerian Universities

During my sojourn in the Ivory Tower, I was able
to figure out that some departments didn't
just host lively students and activities. News
hardly came from such departments and it
seemed these departments were not part of the
university community! After visiting some Nigerian
higher institutions of learning in recent times, I
discovered that the 'boring' phenomenon still
exists. Below are some of the departments :
1) Department of Religious Studies: often times
when I walked passed this department to my
faculty, I couldn't help but wondered whether
it is a grave yard since the whole place would
be so quiet. The students are not usually much
too and they always have this facial
expressions of 'Na wa...na me dey study this
one'...'Abeg, I don tire for life sef'...'Na make e
no be like say we no go school' . You hardly
hear any campus news from this department too!
I wonder what graduates from this department
do because I haven't seen any of the religious
studies graduate during my time yet!!!
2) Department of Agricultural Science: The value
or importance of agriculture in Nigeria cannot be
over-emphasized but the way most Nigerian
students see this course has made it to become
such a boring department that most students
on campus look down on with dismay! Most guys
who find themselves in this department/faculty,
sometimes, feel inferior to approach babes in
departments/faculties such as Law and Medicine
because they always erroneously think that the
babe would look down on them! . Na Agric
Faculty dey always carry last for my university
faculty football championship competition! .
That inferiority mentality still dey affect
them!
3) Department of Philosophy: Another boring
department! I once thought of students in this
department having a quiet room where they sit
and reason for hours as part of their semester
exams!!! . I told a friend and he almost laughed
his head off! . Na for this dept dem go tell
you say the spirit of God dey everything, so
you fit address a cup as God! It's such a quiet
department.
4) Department of Secretarial Studies: I don't
think most of the secretaries in many
establishments studied this course to work as a
secretary. This department is hardly known and
heard of on campus. It is mostly patronised by
a handful of rural girls from neighbouring
communities who dress like Mary-Amaka!
5) Department of Geography/Regional Planning
and Urban Development: Another boring
department! I don't think they ever held any
event such as departmental/award night till I
left school! It is a nice course but boring
department in most Nigerian schools!
In essence, I think it is the mentality of the
Nigerian society that has 'inferiorized' (I wonder
if such word exist in English) these departments
and the students under them.

Obasanjo, Tinubu Clash Over Ministerial Nominees: New telegraph

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo
and erstwhile Lagos State Governor,
Senator Bola Tinubu, are locked in a
war of attrition over the formation of
President Muhammadu Buhari’s
cabinet. Already, former Lagos State
Commissioner for Finance and a
nominee of Tinubu into the cabinet, Mr.
Wale Edun, has become the first
casualty of the ego war.
Sources told New Telegraph that Edun,
who Tinubu had recommended to
Buhari to be Minister of Finance, has
been dropped despite being screened
by the Department of State Services
(DSS). He is to be replaced by former
Lagos State Commissioner for Budget
and Economic Planning, Mr. Yemi
Cardoso, as a Lagos representative in
the cabinet.
Cardoso is the chairman, Citibank
Nigeria Limited. In preparation for the
coveted seat, Edun had led the All
Progressives Congress (APC)
delegation to Washington to attend the
spring meetings of the World Bank and
International Monetary Fund (IMF) in
April.
Edun’s problem started when a group of
influential Lagos indigenes, including
traditional rulers and some of his
colleagues that served in the Tinubu
administration, kicked against his
choice as a Lagos State ministerial
nominee. The opposition informed the
decision of Tinubu to ensure Edun
becomes Ogun State nominee. But
Obasanjo and the Ogun State Governor,
Senator Ibikunle Amosun, also kicked.
A source informed New Telegraph that
Obasanjo called Tinubu and advised
him to desist from pushing Edun as
Ogun State nominee. He was said to
have warned that Ogun people would
not allow Tinubu to fill the slot of the
state with somebody whose work and
career were rooted in Lagos State.
The former president reportedly cited
the example of Prof. Yemi Osinbajo,
from Ogun State, whom Tinubu
nominated as vicepresident, adding that
he considered Osinbajo to be more of a
Lagosian than an indigene of Ogun
State.
It was learnt that Obasanjo and
Amosun have agreed to give the state’s
slot in the cabinet to a former Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) National
Auditor, Chief Bode Mustapha. Sources
said the two recent visits of Obasanjo
to Buhari in Abuja was first to submit
his ministerial list and for further
consultations.
A source in the presidency told New
Telegraph that Obasanjo’s nominees
include: former Osun State Governor,
Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola (Osun);
former Governor of Ekiti State and now
the Deputy National Chairman (South)
of the APC, Chief Segun Oni (Ekiti);
Mustapha (Ogun); former Minister of
Education, Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili and
erstwhile Governor, Central Bank of
Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.
The source added that the submission
of the ministerial list by Obasanjo to the
president informed the September 9
visit of Tinubu and former Interim
National Chairman of APC, Chief Bisi
Akande, to Buhari, 24 hours after the
former president visited. “Tinubu and
Akande’s visit to President Buhari on
September 9 was an impromptu
meeting. An influential official in the
presidency told them of Obasanjo’s
surreptitious moves to corner the
ministerial nominees from the South-
West.
This is why the two leaders visited,” the
source said. At the meeting with Buhari,
Tinubu and Akande reportedly told the
president that South-West APC leaders
would not accept a situation where
Obasanjo would determine those who
become ministers.
It was learnt that Tinubu and Akande
did not oppose the choice of Oyinlola as
a minister representing Osun State. “It
was a moral issue. Obasanjo is not a
member of the APC and cannot
appropriate the positions of the zone to
himself. The South-West leaders have
been meeting for two months on the
ministerial nominee, only for Obasanjo
to sit in Ota and draw up a ministerial
list. That is why the leaders kicked
against the idea. “That will be killing the
party in the South-West.
He can’t be an alternate APC. Obasanjo
should be respected as a leader, but he
can’t hijack what belongs to the region.
“On Obasanjo’s ministerial list, former
Governor Oyinlola featured just as his
name featured from the list submitted
from the state.
There was no resistance to Oyinlola’s
nominee because that was part of the
agreement before his defection from
the PDP to the APC. The party has
fulfilled one leg of the agreement by
ceding the senatorial slot to Senator
Isiaka Adeleke who also defected from
PDP to the APC,” an influential member
of the APC said. The source added that
based on Tinubu’s complaint, Buhari
reportedly promised to look into the
issue.
As it is, Obasanjo has been given two
ministerial slots of Ogun and Osun –
Mustapha and Oyinlola – while Tinubu
and South- West leaders would fill the
four other slots remaining in the
geopolitical zone.
One of sources said Buhari, who had
promised to constitute his cabinet by
September 30, would submit the
ministerial list to the National Assembly
next week either before his trip to New
York on Tuesday to attend the United
Nations conference, or on his return
from the trip. In addition, it was learnt
that the DSS had screened ministerial
nominees and forwarded its report to
the president.
Those who failed the integrity test had
been replaced. It was learnt that Buhari
had settled for former Rivers State
Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, as the
nominee from the state;
notwithstanding the opposition against
his candidacy from top officials of the
PDP government in the state. Amaechi,
who was the Director-General of the
APC Presidential Campaign Council,
lost out in the bid for the Secretary to
the Government of the Federation (SGF)
. One of the sources also said a former
Governor of old Abia State, Dr.
Ogbannaya Onu, had been asked to
choose between being a minister and
getting an ambassadorial posting. The
source said Onu, who also lost out in
the SGF race, had settled for the Ebonyi
ministerial slot. Former presidential
candidate and renowned economist,
Prof. Pat Utomi, is the likely nominee of
Delta State.
A group of professionals of which Vice-
President Osinbajo belongs, is rooting
for Utomi. Former Governor of Kano
State and now a senator, Dr. Rabiu
Kwankwaso, is likely going to make the
ministerial list. Kwankwaso, who was
Minister of Defence in the Obasanjo
administration, may retain the position
in the Buhari cabinet.
Although, a former Chief of Army Staff,
Lt. Gen. Abdurahman Dambazzau, who
is being touted as the next Minister of
Defence, has been screened, one of the
sources said he might be given another
portfolio.
“The president is considering having a
civilian as his Minister of Defence. The
basis for this is that there is always a
friction between the service chiefs and
the minister of defence with a military
background. Don’t forget that the
president is a retired general. So, if
Kwankwaso makes it to the cabinet, he
may end up as defence minister having
held the portfolio before,” the source
said.
In Edo State, either former Executive
Chairman, the Federal Inland Revenue
Service (FIRS), Mrs. Ifueko Omogui-
Okauru or erstwhile Special Adviser to
Obasanjo on Programme and Policy
Monitoring, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, may
get the state’s slot. Omogui-Okauru,
who stepped down as FIRS chairman in
April 2012, was recently appointed by
the Kaduna State Governor, Mallam
Nasir El- Rufai, to head the Kaduna
State Tax Reform Committee.
Ihonvbere is the Secretary to the Edo
State Government (SSG) and believed
to be the nominee of Governor Adams
Oshiomhole.
New Telegraph learnt that the only
name submitted for consideration as
minister for Kwara State is that of Mr.
Bolaji Abdullahi, an ally of the Senate
President Bukola Saraki. Abdullahi
served as Minister of Sports in the
Goodluck Jonathan administration and
was the Deputy Director, Directorate of
Policy and Strategy of the APC
Presidential Campaign Organisation. It
is not clear if President Buhari will
accept Abdullahi’s candidacy. If he
does, then the National Publicity
Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai
Mohammed, may end up as Special
Adviser to the President on Aviation.
But if the president rejects Abdullahi,
then a technocrat or Mohammed may
fill the Kwara ministerial slot.
In Ekiti, the hope of former Governors
Niyi Adebayo, Segun Oni and Kayode
Fayemi was dashed by the choice of
human rights activist, Mr. Femi Falana
(SAN). Vice-President Osinbajo was
said to have, in conjunction with
Tinubu, pushed for his candidacy as
the Attorney General of the Federation
and Minister of Justice. It was learnt
that General Adeyinka Adebayo (rtd)
lobbied retired Generals to have his
son, Niyi, as Ekiti nominee.
New Telegraph reliably learnt that the
APC South- West leaders have agreed
that the ambassadorial slot for Ekiti is
reserved for Fayemi. In Adamawa, Boss
Gida Mustapha, a lawyer, has been
tipped by the president as minister.
Mustapha lost the APC governorship
ticket to Senator Bindow Jibrilla, now
governor.
He was a member of the Ahmed Joda-
led transition committee set up by the
president. He is a former Deputy
National Chairman of the defunct Action
Congress of Nigeria (ACN). Alhaji
Abubakar Malami (SAN), a member of
the Ahmed Joda transition committee,
has been tapped for the Kebbi
ministerial slot. He was with Buhari in
the Congress for Progressive Change
(CPC) where he served as National
Legal Adviser.

Tecno Is Going Premium And It Is Frightening. Here's Why

In life , Growth is the only irreversible
change that is constant and cannot be
avoided. A boy can never be a boy
forever. Oneday , He will grow to
become a man and a Father. As he
grows everyday , it normal for him to
try new things and accept new
challenges. However , the outcome of
his decisions could make or break him.
The launch of Tecno Phantom 5 is a
clear signal that TECNO is going
premium and this time , they mean
business. They have grown , conquered
the mid-end market and now , they
want to compete with the big boys.
Why Going Premium Is Frightening
In the world today , Brand name plays
a keyrole in influencing our buying
decisions. When iPhone 6 was launched
, it wasn't the best smartphone in the
market yet it shattered apple's sales
record. Why was iPhone 6 so
successful? "Because it is owned by
Apple" and Apple is naturally a premium
brand that appeals to the classy people.
Same with Samsung. Samsung is a
leader when it comes to smartphone
innovation. That is why they are well
respected and loved.
On the other hand , many Nigerians
regard TECNO as a "Cheap Chinko Brand"
that is used by the less classy people in
the society. This is because in Genesis ,
TECNO's main target was the mid-end
market and that is one of the major
reasons why they have enjoyed
massive success today.
With the release of every premium
flagship smartphone , there is bound to
be an increase in price which will lead
to a serious outcry by Nigerians.
Written below is the price list of the last
3 flagship smartphones from TECNO
Mobile :
Tecno Phantom A+ (2013 Flagship
Smartphone) : #35,000
Tecno Phantom Z (2014 Flagship
Smartphone) : #64,000
Tecno Phantom 5 (2015 Flagship
Smartphone) : #69,900
Here's how some Nigerians on
Nairaland Forum reacted to the price of
newly launched TECNO Phantom 5.
Most of the reactions below are based
on the fact that "It is Tecno" and so
therefore the price is too outrageous.
Nigerians are putting more focus on the
name "TECNO" , Neglecting the fact that
Phantom 5 is actually a very good
smartphone.
Will They Be Able To Conquer The
Premium Market In Nigeria?
It's difficult to judge. Tecno is a very
strong brand in Nigeria. Anything can
happen. Based on our observations ,
there are 2 issues they need to address
:
*Brand Perception
*Finding a good and steady balance
between price and premium specs.
They need to change the way people
see the brand "TECNO" and they can do
this by cutting all excesses and focus
more on real innovation. Asides that ,
finding the right balance between price
and specs will play a very key role.
Nigerians are price conscious people
and can easily get frightened by long
figures , irrespective of the product's
quality.
Whatever the case is , we really like the
TECNO Phantom 5 smartphone and we
hope to see more of such in the future.

JSS 3 Student Commits Suicide Over Love Affair

A 14 year-old girl yesterday committed suicide

MY NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE AT THE POLICE STATION

There
are some
experiences that we would have in life and they
would stay with us for the rest of our lives.
Some are good and some are bad, some you
will never even deem it fit to tell anyone and
some you will always tell anyone that cares to
listen. I had passed through a lot of not so
good times in my life, but this I must say, was
the worst of all.
I could remember vividly that year 2007 ,was in
my 4th year on campus and was rounding off
my IT Program, which we always did then on
campus as agricultural students. I was actually
coming from John's hostel in camp and it was
around 7:30pm. There was so much traffic
along the Abeokuta -Ibadan express road, so I
had spent close to 40minutes on a journey that
was supposed to be less than 5 minutes.
The moment the traffic cleared and we were
now assuming the normal movement of a
traveller on an express road, I felt a little bit
relieved as it had been a moment of cursing,
fanning, wishing you had taken a bike, but
were was the money self. I only had 20Naira
on me, which was all I needed to take the
transport.
On getting to my bus stop. I told the driver to
stop when he sees a parking space. When he
saw one and was about parking at the corner
of a street, a white pick-up van just bashed out
of nowhere and it almost hit our vehicle.
Reflexively, we started cursing the occupants
of the van. Were they blind to have almost hit
us? I cursed the more, because if anything had
happened, I would have been more involved
because their Van actually barged out through
my side.
Before we knew what was happening. The van
stopped and some fiecre looking, gun-wielding
men just came out of the van and were coming
towards our vehicle. I knew that was it, it has
finally set for me, I thought to myself that
When friends used to tell me to stop the way I
curse people and talk derogatorily, I turned
blind ears, now the act is taking me to hell,
because I was even so certain I was a sinner. I
even thought of asking for God's forgiveness
before they got to me, because I was not sure
if that was the last moment I would have on
earth.
The men initially didn't come to us. They went
towards the 4 tyres of the vehicle and deflated
them with their guns. I knew I was in hot soup.
Then they approached us and asked who said
were they blind. The driver didn't hesitate to
point his finger at me, as it was obvious he
was already pissing in his pants too.
They simply asked me to come down from the
cab and asked me to kneel. I did, but I was
really and totally scared because one was right
behind me. I immediately remembered those
action movies where people were eliminated
right on their knees through a shot from the
back. The man standing before me asked what
I used to call them blind and I fidgetly replied
it was with my mouth. He then asked me to
blow up my cheeks like I was going to blow air
into a balloon and gave me a hot slap. I fell to
the ground and rose immediately.
He asked if a blind man could give that kind of
hot slap and I said No Sir. He then asked who
was blind, I replied that it was me and all my
friends that were blind, that I was sorry to
have said that. I wasn't really myself at that
moment because I was not yet sure if they
were robbers or Security Operatives, and to
make matters worse, no one in that area could
summon the courage to approach them and
ask what was happening.
They asked the driver if he had anything on
him like cash to part with. He instantly
dropped the whole content of his pocket. They
said he was free. I knew from that moment the
Round 2 of my slap was about coming,
because I had nothing on me. The man asked
who I was and I told him I was a student,
thinking that would make him have
compassion on me, but the next thing he said
totally got me out of my skin and I thought it
was just a matter of days before I said
goodbye to my friends and my enemies.
He said 'so you are among the cultists that
have been terrorising this state'
'No, no, nooooooo sir' I managed to mutter out
of my fear. I am just an ordinary student sir.
Infact I was just coming from a friends side in
Camp.
'Shut up, will you tell if you are a cultist? ' He
shouted, but I didn't say anything.
'Answer me, idiot, will you tell if you are a
cultist? ' He repeated.
'No sir, but........ '
'So you are a cultist ' he cut it. ' We are taking
you to the Police Station '
I didn't know if I felt relieved knowing that they
were not armed robbers or assassins. But
giving it a 2nd thought, I got so totally
shocked that I was being taken to the Station
just for asking if the man that wanted to hit
me with his car, was blind. Is that how the
system has rotten off into? Were they even
blind to see that I was just a teenager? Then I
knew some people were just not fit to be called
humans. I developed my hatred for policemen
from that day on.
I was shoved into the Van and we drove down
to the police station.

.....Series 2 coming later tonight.
